Our Story

Hugh Hoagland envisioned a way to help save lives and to transform the electrical industry. In 1997, Hugh founded ArcWear, a company that focused on testing and rating PPE in order to protect electrical workers from arc flash events. Hugh worked tirelessly, sharing his expertise across the globe, and, due to his efforts, others in the electrical industry agreed, supporting Hugh’s message for arc-rated PPE in the workplace.

In 2004, Hugh connected with Bill Shinn, an electrical engineer who had retired from Alcoa. Bill accompanied Hugh to Kansas City, where Hugh had been asked to present on electrical safety at a large utility in Kansas City, Kansas. Hugh presented on arc flash and PPE and asked Bill to focus on electrical shock hazards. The training was such a success that, together, they launched e-Hazard.

The e-Hazard team offers classes on electrical safety for commercial, industrial, and utility sectors. Currently, over 100,000 students have attended e-Hazard training. Due to the success of the training program, e-Hazard launched its own Train the Trainer program, which now has over 1,000 who continue to spread e-Hazard’s vision to improve the electrical safety culture at their own companies.

As our training program grew, so did the demand for additional services. In 2008, e-Hazard welcomed electrical engineers to fill the increasing demand for arc flash studies. Audits and written electrical safety programs were also added to our catalog of services.

The e-Hazard team consists of experts in the field of electrical engineering, adult education, and electrical safety who help write the standards and guidelines for electrical safety protection, setting the precedent for the entire industry.

e-Hazard strives to offer quality services and build strong relationships with its clients by focusing on Hugh’s initial vision: keeping those in the electrical industry safe.
