An explosion at Chevron Pascagoula Refinery killed one employee and injured another, authorities said.

Reports indicate a detonation occurred in the “Cracking II area”. This cracking unit is used for the break down hydrocarbons in the conversion of crude oil to fuel and chemicals.

A company spokesperson said the damage occurred to the furnace in the Cracking II processing unit.
