The U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Operational Safety issued a publication in 1984 reporting the data analysis of hydrocarbon pool and vapor fire.
The report indicates the flame geometry and thermal radiation data from a series of large scale experiments involving liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline spills on water.

According to the abstract in the report, the experiments were conducted at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, California. The two types of fires studied were pool fires and vapor fires.
