Six hundred sixty electrical safety professionals from around the globe gathered in San Diego, CA in February, 2014 for the 21st Annual IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop.  Participants represented a variety of organizations and companies in the electrical engineering field from industry, contractors, DOE, and utilities.  Several countries were represented including Africa, China, India, Canada, USA and Chile.

The motto of the annual gathering is “Changing the electrical safety culture” and offered attendees the opportunity to hear from the world’s foremost experts on the latest discoveries and innovations in the electrical safety field. Those in attendance at this year’s event had the opportunity to attend educational presentations, see demonstrations of products and services at the expo as well as network with colleagues.

Highlights of the presentations included innovative engineering and product solutions as well as safety processes, PPE and many other subjects.  This is not a sales conference.  In fact, commercialism is strictly prohibited.  One night there is a show after the conference and the conference offers 25 CEU’s for attendance through IEEE.  Again this year, this is one of the best conferences you will ever attend on electrical safety.

Student papers were presented from five universities and this is double last year.  Students compete and receive free attendance for winning papers.  IF you know of engineering students interested in electrical safety, let them know about the conference.  It is a good opportunity to present an individual presentation and possibly be published in the IEEE Transactions.  All the papers are peer review and several are published each year in IEEE publications.  Student Papers are being requested for ESW 2015 in Louisville, KY and the deadline for submission is April 1, 2014.

We are looking forward to hosting IEEE ESW 2015 in Louisville, KY on January 26-30, 2015.
