Little Falls, NY company, Burrows Paper Corporation, has received OSHA citations with a total of $298,100 in proposed fines.

The repeat and serious safety violations were discovered in inspections conducted after incident and injury reports increased significantly since 2009 and 2010.

The company manufactures paper and packaging at four mill locations in New York and Mississippi, employing approximately 700 workers.

The Department of Labor reports finding three serious safety violations during an inspection of the company’s Mohawk Valley Mill in Little Falls. These violations included:

  • stairways that lacked railings
  • papermaking machines that lacked guarding to prevent employee contact with moving parts
  • electrical hazard related to the use of electrical equipment not approved for the location

Six repeat violations were also found for:

At another facility, an inspection revealed more safety violations for exposure to combustible paper dust, electrical issues and a malfunctioning exit light. It identified four repeat safety violations for machines with insufficient guarding.
