OSHA Inspection Produces 21 Citations to the Tune of Over $180,000 in New Jersey

During an OSHA inspection, United Hospital Supply Corp. received twenty-one citations.

About half of the citations were repeat violations. United Hospital Supply Corp., located in New Jersey, received the notice November 19, 2015.

The electrical citations include:

  • Openings where conductors entered 4”x4” metal receptacle box were not effectively closed – 1910.305(b)(1)(i) – SERIOUS
  • Electrical equipment was not used how manufacturer listed or labeled it (receptacle box not mounted to a wall or installed as per manufacturer instructions; used as a power strip) – 1910.303(b)(2) – REPEAT
  • Storage kept in required working space for electric equipment rated 600V – 1910.303(g)(1)(ii) – REPEAT
  • Cord of metal box used as power strip had damaged strain relief – 1910.305(g)(2)(iii) – REPEAT

According to the area OSHA director, “The willful and repeat violations cited during these latest inspections were identified in 2010 at United Health Supply Corp.’s facility.”

Electrical safety training for workers on the National Electric Code (NEC) and having a solid written electrical safety program and NFPA 70E trained workers is key to avoiding these costs and protecting workers.
