The winning entries were based upon the utilization of Kevlar® fiber within their designs. Youngstown FR Waterproof Ultimate Linked with Kevlar®, is a waterproof winter glove, with an Arc Rating of 55 cal/cm². It is one of the highest arc ratings on a glove and the cut resistance is quite high too.
The glove consists of four separate layers – a cowhide leather outer, Nomex® insulation, a waterproof membrane and a 100% Kevlar® liner. The design meets the requirements of both the updated OSHA GT&D standards for 29 CFR Part 1926 and the NFPA 70e 2015 Edition standards for hand arc flash protection. It also meets the flame requirements for FR standards when tested according to ASTM D6413.
It surpasses the 14 cal/cm2 min protection level for gloves OSHA requires for arc flash in utilities and is ARC Category 4 in NFPA 70E. The gloves DO NOT provide shock protection and can only be worn in arc flash exposed situations which have no shock hazard or as a protector glove over rubber insulating gloves.
